Hello and thanks for stopping by. R & D Web is Richard and Deborah Alves. We formed our company in 1996. Our programming experience goes back to the 70’s when Deborah was working with Fortan and Richard was programming engineering formulas on the first programmable scientific calculators.
We personally deal with all our clients and frequently both of us will work with the client over the course of a project. Richard specializes in art, design, mechanics, and the initial build. Deborah’s specialties are scripts, E-commerce, marketing and site maintenance. We have assembled a talented team of specialists we can call on when a client needs database driven applications, flash programming or audio/video production. In addition, we own our own web-servers in close proximity to Mae-West (the internet's version of I-5) and managed by one of the best IT gurus in the business. We truly provide one-stop shopping for our clients!
Our business is built around customer service. There are emergency situations which demand prompt action. As we care about your business almost as much as you do, we deal with such problems immediately! Other frequently encountered problems such as "out-of-stock" or "discontinued" items are important and dealt with as soon as possible.
New websites or site rebuilds generally happen very soon after the client supplies us with the photos, copy, data and whatever else we need to do the job. Timelines are always discussed as a part of contract negotiations. If you have a reasonable time constraint, talk to us (a new 20 page site in 24 hours is probably not reasonable). We will let you know if the project can be completed by your deadline.
On major projects we work by contract with specific amounts spelled out for the various project components. You know what we are going to do and how much it is going to cost before we start. Small maintenance jobs are billed based on time spent.
Many of our new clients come to us because they are having problems with their webmaster. We specialize in handling the complicated issues involved with domain registration, hosting and copyright, to name a few.
We give our clients the copyrights to all work we have done for them and we make sure our clients understand and take responsibility for their domain. Business ethics are important to us and we have no need to hold our customers' websites hostage.

I moved to Sonoma, California in 1994 after living many years in Florida and the Virgin Islands. Richard and I moved to Fort Jones, at the base of the Marble Mountains, in 1999.
My background is mathematics and computer science, which makes my contribution to R & D Web pretty valuable. I love to tinker with scripts and have been told that I have a very distinctive snicker when something I've been working on finally works.
My avocations include gourmet cooking (worked as a cordon blue chef on a yacht in the Mediterranean and one in Alaska years ago), organic gardening, bellydancing (I'm a member of Ayesha's Oasis Dance Co. in Medford, OR) and I produce the Big Bellydance Show.

My focus is on the artistic and conceptual aspects of web site design. I am a native Californian and have lived here most of my life in rural settings. California's cultural diversity provides a palette of artistic influences unmatched anywhere in the world. This diversity is something I try to project in my work.
I am an avid outdoorsman, so publishing ImHooked.com is more fun than work. The West Coast's natural beauty is a major source of artistic inspiration I apply to my work.
I assisted in teaching html programming and web site graphics at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College before moving north to Siskiyou County.
